京都の伝統工芸品の一つ。本格的な手描き友禅の場合、26もの工程を経て完成に至ります。

8世紀から伝わる技術ですが、古来の染色技法を江戸時代の扇絵師、宮崎友禅斎が確立したため、「友禅染」と呼ばれています。友禅斎は江戸時代の元禄年間に活躍した絵師です。

・This is an excellent example of when Youtube really creates intercultural value. I would never have seen this unless I traveled to Japan, which I can't due to chronic illness. I was mesmerized from the very start of how amazingly skilled these artists and craftsmen are. I would love to buy such a beautiful piece of fabric, so it could decorate the wall above my couch instead of a traditional framed picture. Please, make more of these types of videos.
